Honestly, yours truly had pretty much given up on Windows during the Vista years and switched over to Linux until photography became an expensive hobby. I know, you can find some pretty nice apps in the Linux world but it’s hard to wean oneself off of Lightroom Classic after using it for a number of years.
I digress, you came here for some tips on tweaking Windows 11, not hear me ramble on about first world problems. Before you do any of this make sure your machine is updated to the latest greatest. Here goes, to get the right click context menu back open the terminal in windows and paste the following. It will look like this. (click to enlarge) Oh yeah, if you goof your machine up, not my problem, it works great for me as you can see in the screenshot.
reg.exe add "HKCU\Software\Classes\CLSID\{86ca1aa0-34aa-4e8b-a509-50c905bae2a2}\InprocServer32" /f /ve
Then copy paste this in the terminal, or restart and don’t worry about the below.
taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
And this:
start explorer.exe
Have a lot of fun! Now let’s get the ribbon back, like below, (click to enlarge) and like above just make sure you’re updated and if you goof things up I don’t want to hear about it.
This tweak requires a download below, use your new right click function and scan with MSĀ Defender or what ever anti-virus you use, just good practice, then open, now you will click or double click to run, reboot, and enjoy!
